So that you get the full picture let start with what happened last week.... Last Wednesday night I spent the evening mowing the lawn and making the back yard look all pretty! Thursday morning sometime while I was getting ready for work Rocky found a stuffed animal and decided to have a party with it in the backyard!
That little blue thing in the picture above is what was left of the bunny's pants and head...
He knew he was in trouble the minute I opened the back door, look at that pitiful face :(! Don't let that face fool you, he was really proud of what he did!
Now that leads us to this morning... While I was in the shower I could hear him barking in the backyard, I thought it was one of the cats that walks the alley teasing him so I didn't think anything of it! As I walked through the kitchen to get something out of the dryer I noticed him rolling around on his back in the middle of the yard. :-/ hmmmm thats not good I thought! Means he is up to something and I was not looking forward to whatever it was!
When it was about time for me to leave I went out back to corral him in, but he wasn't wanting to leave his spot. So I started walking closer and saw something laying on the ground, my first thought was "Where the heck did he get another stuffed animal!?" I was just about to yell at him when I noticed it wasn't a "stuffed" animal at all..... It was a Baby POSSUM!!!
(Now before anyone gets upset, the baby possum was still alive and breathing when I left this morning.) I thought it was dead till I knelt down to take the picture and saw it was still breathing. According to Wikipedia:
"When threatened or harmed, they will "play possum", mimicking the appearance and smell of a sick or dead animal. When playing possum, the lips are drawn back, teeth are bared, saliva foams around the mouth, and a foul-smelling fluid is secreted from the anal glands. The physiological response is involuntary, rather than a conscious act. Their stiff, curled form can be prodded, turned over, and even carried away. The animal will regain consciousness after a period of minutes or hours and escape."
But as you can see from the picture Rocky had been playing with it! His fur was all wet as if Rocky had been licking it! ewwww gross!!! My first fear was that Rocky had been bit so I thoroughly checked him out and there was not a scratch on him! whew! but tonight when I get home he and his bedding is getting a bath ASAP!!!
Needless to say this morning he was quite proud of himself! When I came out to see it, he was pouncing around all excited to show me his new friend! What a mess! I love this dog! <3
